Memorial Weekend on Shasta

After a few seasons of watching the mountain through the cam it was time to go stand on top of it. Four of us headed up for Memorial Day weekend and climbed the classic Avalanche Gulch route on May 24th.

A couple of minutes from the day:

The climb

The numbers tell most of the story: 11.8 miles, 7,228 feet of elevation gain, just under 11 hours moving and almost 15 hours car to car.

Splits from the climb: 11.8 miles, 7,228 ft of elevation gain, 10:45 moving time

That mile 5 split of 134 minutes with 2,277 feet of gain is the grind up from Helen Lake toward Red Banks. Steep snow, crampons on, one foot in front of the other.

The summit

Worth every step.
